Oil & Gas: Digital Pipelines

High-performance wireless backup & monitoring solutions for pipeline operations

Pipelines span thousands of kilometers, transporting fossil fuels from remote extraction sites to refineries and processing facilities. Along this infrastructure, SCADA and IIoT systems monitor and control valves, compressors, and environmental conditions, tracking pressure, temperature, and stress in real time.

While fiber serves as the core Operational Technology (OT) transport layer, vulnerabilities in pipeline infrastructure, both physical and cyber, have increased the need for secure, resilient, and redundant wireless connectivity.

RADWIN offers fiber-grade wireless solutions as both a backup to fiber and a means to extend connectivity to remote or mobile endpoints. Our long-range, interference-resistant links support fixed, manned, and unmanned digital pipeline monitoring with utility-grade performance

Digital Pipeline Fiber Backup

Although most pipelines are fiber-connected, many segments, particularly in remote, hazardous, or environmentally sensitive areas require complementary wireless connectivity.

RADWIN’s Point-to-Point (PtP) radios provide high-throughput, long-distance links with AES-256 encryption and interference mitigation. Engineered with beamforming antennas and IP67-rated enclosures, they operate in extreme conditions while delivering:

  • Fiber-like bandwidth and reliability
  • SLA assurance
  • Low latency and jitter
  • Enhanced security for OT data transmission

RADWIN extends core SCADA and monitoring systems into areas where fiber cannot reach, improving operational safety and network resiliency

IIoT and Wi-Fi Backhaul

Pipeline operators rely on a combination of modern IIoT devices and legacy SCADA to maintain 24/7 visibility and autonomous operations. Field devices collect and transmit critical telemetry, while inspection is increasingly performed by drones and autonomous ground vehicles equipped with advanced video and data sensors.

At designated intervals, these devices offload data via Wi-Fi access points integrated with RADWIN’s PtP and PtMP radios. These same wireless networks also backhaul:

  • Real-time VoIP and LMR communications
  • Thermal/UV video surveillance
  • IIoT telemetry to central control centers
  • PAGA and safety systems for field alerts

RADWIN’s wireless architecture ensures robust, low-latency communication, even in unmanned or extreme locations—supporting mission-critical decision-making and response.
